School's Starting

Last Monday, Maya had "Meet the Teacher" night. We met Miss Austene, aka Miss A. She was a new grad from Bradley, who seems really excited, yet mature to take on these kids. Thursday Maya went in for 1.5 for unpack your backpack day. Basically it was just playtime in the classroom, but she did get all dressed up like it was her first day of school. I'll add a pic. First, real day is the tuesday after Labor Day. This weekend flew by. Saturday was our anniversary. Since or trip is our present we didn't feel a need to do much of anything else. I spent the early afternoon helping Becky decorate for her football draft party with Maya, while Adam and Brennan hit an auction somewhere. We decided we would take the kids out for dinner. After hitting a few places with long waits we ended up at Steak and Shake by the river. We all enjoyed some shakes and the kids had fun pointing at all the ducks and boats.
Yesterday we hit the Fondulac Farm Park. It was a cute little place. Small, but enough for the kids. The kids had fun feeding all the animals and just being outside. Last night, Adam decided to have a BBQ and invited 4 houses over for chicken, corn, potatoes and watermelon. For being a spur of the minute thing it did turn out pretty good.

The Getaway

It's been a nice chill weekend. No plans with exception to a small workshop I had to attend on child sexual abuse. As a volunteer for St. Pat's to help out with the school I had to go to the session. It appears I am a room mother for Maya's class as well as a helper for picture day. This is when being a mom really gets exciting... to be a part of all the activities. Brennan is going to start his 3 hour, 2 days a week class as well after labor day. We're pretty excited, cuz 2 of our neighbors will have their kids in the same class and Brennan knows these kids! Hopefully that will help his transistion. We're ready for a little structure again. Summer has been a crazy no-routine lifestyle. It's hard to believe we are coming up on Maya's 4 year birthday and Brennan's 3rd. Where does the time go? And were they really a baby once? I don't remember that part at all.
Speaking of time flying, Adam and I will have our 5 year anniversary saturday. I wish I could get married all over again. I LOVED my wedding! Maybe I'll have to dig out the video and let the kids see it. So our very special adventure for our anniversary will take us to Amsterdam and Belgium in November. Yep yep, a european getaway. I am so excited and a vacation is much needed. Between my mom, Becky and Adam's mom and stepdad we have the kids accounted for. We are very thankful for their willingness to help out, cuz this isn't gonna happen again.
Speaking of adventures, my sister is on her yearly pilgrimmage to Graceland. The Elvis fanatic, although, I must add I took Becky to her first and my only 20th death anniverary pilgrimmage and it was amazing. Elvis is a God downthere. Memphis is pretty trashy, but Beale Street is a mustsee for all!

Sleepwalking in the Nude

Saturday, although the weather was HOT HOT HOT, was a successful block party. Everybody came and it was just a lot of fun. Adam and I did not win the beanbag tournament, but we hung in there for 2 rounds. The kids loved the pinatas, the tatoos, and one of our neighbors brought their tiny tyke jumphouse. There were 20some kids and 30some adults from 22 houses. So my fun, slightly embarrassing, but at least nobody saw me so I can tell the story, sleepwalking adventure occurred. After the party ended, the party went back to our neighbors yard with the leftover keg. I did not drink alcohol all day due to the heat and frankly I wasn't interested. Around 7pm I decided the street party was over, no more weight on my back give me a drink. Drinks turned into beer games (flippy cup.. new one for me). I can never turn down a game... I love playing scrabble, trivia etc., beer games are no exception. I kicked some butt too for being a newbie to the game. Anyways, it was obvious that I was drunk, informing all my neighbors that my husband looked just like Chris Daughty and who knows what else. Anywho, there just came the point and I said, okay no more, I'm going to bed. Sometime in the night I threw up and at some point I found myself outside, completely naked wandering around my neighbors house. I have had sleepwalking issues in the past, but generally it takes more than just beer to make me do this. What the hell I was doing, I still don't know, but I made it back to my bed safely and I think unseen. I only tell the story, cuz I think it so funny. Obviously, I'm on the wagon after that event, but it's the fourth drunk sleepwalking adventure in my life.
I woke up pretty okay the next morning. Mostly just sleep deprived. Adam and I drove down to Springfield to see Mr. Daughtry. It was fun. He looked awesome, but lacked a personality on stage. His voice was really good though. So, this is a nice week of nothing planned, besides Maya's school physical. It's raining now. Gonna be a nice day to just lay around!

Grandma Rene's Visit

The last week was full of fun with a visit from Grandma Rene. The weather was crazy hot! Hello summer, when is fall coming? Anyhow, we just did our day to day things. On Saturday we drove down to Springfield, IL to go through the Lincoln Museum. It was great!! I really left thinking what a wonderful guy he was. I recommend it to everyone! Sunday we went shopping. I found some great deals for kid clothes at Bergners. 75% off already reduced prices.... LOVE IT! I also got myself some shoes. Bergners out at Grand Prairie has the BEST selection of shoes. What else, what else. Oh yeah, I got the Dyson Animal vacuum for my anniversary from my mother-in-law. How awesome is she? Seriously, it was so nice of her to get it and yes, I LOVE it! She left on Tuesday. Wednesday I hosted my first Pampered Chef party. I had 15 people there, which in terms of these parties, I think is pretty successful. I really do like their pieces. Yesterday my neighbor and I got together to fill goodie bags and pinatas for the kids for our block party. I'll let you know how that turns out. Sunday is Chris Daughtry. That should be fun. I'll try and get a good pic there.

Best Friends

Monday we went to Bloomington to hang out with our favorite friends. We went to a park with water stuff for the kids. They had fun. We should always eat meals with friends because the kids actually ate too. I put on some pics and one of me and a couple of friends from a wedding I went to Memorial Day Weekend.
Can I add that I am starting to get addicted to some bizarre shows. VH1 offers some mighty fine entertainment at night. The Brett Michaels dating show, Rock my World I think, Scott Baio is 45 and single, and then there is a Corey Feldmen and Corey Haim show on another channel. I don't know why I must watch these shows... but I do. Obviously I am a child of the 80's.
